Sepp Kuss, an American cyclist, showed unwavering courage and resilience in completing the Tour de France stage 20 despite being injured by a serious crash.
Kuss drops from 10th to 12th position
Kuss had held onto a promising tenth place in the overall rankings, but unfortunately fell to 12th after a violent collision with Carlos Rodriguez from the Ineos Grenadiers. The accident occurred during a rapid descent of the Ballon d’Alsace at just 25km in the 133.5km-long stage.
Kuss, despite this setback continued to be a crucial supporter for his Jumbo Visma team, and Jonas Vingegaard, a fellow rider.
Unfortunate accident
Kuss, and Rodriguez both lost control of their bikes on a sharp corner. This led to a crash in which they suffered injuries to the face and body. Both riders were treated quickly by the race doctor, and allowed to continue.

Kuss suffered severe injuries, including a left eye that was swollen and orange in color, requiring stitches, as well as numerous cuts to his elbow on the right, which were wrapped with medical gauze. Kuss fought on with a mindset of survival that won him respect from his peers and the spectators.
His General Classification (GC), aspirations were shattered by the crash. However, his spirit remained intact. His determination to overcome adversity won him admiration from spectators around the world.

Jonas Vingegaard, of Jumbo-Visma, is leading the 2023 Tour de France. Vingegaard, despite the drama of stage 19, showed great skill and determination to secure a lead over Team UAE Emirates’ Tadej Pogacar by 7 minutes and 35 second.
Adam Yates is another rider of UAE Team Emirates in third place, behind the leader by 10 minutes and 45 second.
