On Friday morning, hundreds of thousands of Twitter users were unable to access the platform. The blue tick was lost at midnight by users such as Virat Kohli Rohit Sharma Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni who are hugely popular on Twitter.
Celebrities have been able to enjoy the blue checkmark for free since 2009. It was the first time ever in Twitter history that celebrities were not accompanied by the blue tick. Twitter CEO Elon musk is responsible for this. He had announced earlier that the blue tick would be removed on April 20 if users did not pay an $8 monthly fee to the platform.
Twitter began the process to remove the blue ticks from accounts last year, when Musk became CEO. Twitter Blue is a new service that requires users to pay $8 per verified tick.
Only users who have paid $8 for Twitter Blue will receive blue checkmarks. Twitter posted on its official account in March of this year: “On 1st April, we will be winding down the legacy verified program, and removing legacy checked checkmarks.” Sign up for Twitter Blue .” to keep your blue checkmark.
